What Are AI Projects in Bitrix24? A Practical Guide

Bitrix24 has combined groups, collabs, and projects into one format called AI Projects. Your workflows stay the same: you can collaborate with your team, communicate in one place, and give external participants access in a single workspace. This guide explains what changed, where to find projects, and how to manage chats, members, and older tools.

What Are AI Projects in Bitrix24?

AI Projects is the new unified workspace format in Bitrix24. Before, when you created a workspace, you had to choose between a workgroup, a collab, or a project. Now all of these use cases are available in one format with the same core features. You can manage tasks, communicate with your team, and invite guests from a single workspace.

Where to Find Projects and What Happened to Old Workspace Options

Bitrix24 simplified navigation by renaming the Tasks and Projects section to Tasks. The Tasks section now shows all tasks from projects, flows, and Scrums. Projects moved to a separate tab so work levels are easier to understand.

You can find projects in these places:

• Left menu > Projects — shows all projects available to you
• Tasks > Projects — shows projects you participate in by default
• Messenger > Projects

Groups and collabs are no longer created as separate workspace types. You cannot switch back to workgroups and collabs, but your data and tools are preserved and available. Some tools are not included when you create a new project: photo gallery, wiki, knowledge base, and lists. New projects include the main tools teams use most — Tasks, Files, Calendar, Feed, Flows, and apps. If you used the removed tools in older projects, they are still there: open the project, click Three dots (...), and you can still view, edit, and delete existing items. You cannot create new items in these tools.

How Project Chats and Notifications Work

Chat is at the center of every AI Project. The main chat is the shared space for team coordination. Group chats inside a project help teams discuss specific topics. CoPilot in chat can be used for quick status checks, risk review, and task search. This keeps communication, tasks, meetings, and files in one place.

If your team prefers to start with the Feed or tasks, you can change the default starting tool. This setting is available only in Bitrix24 accounts created before June 30, 2026: open the sidebar in the project's main chat, click Three dots (...) > Set default tool, and select your preferred option. To open a project in full-page view, click the button in the project header. By default, a project opens over the chat list, so you can monitor updates in other chats and switch between conversations.

Messenger shows only the main project chat. Task chats, meeting chats, and topic-based chats stay inside the project, which preserves context and keeps your main chat list from getting crowded. New project messages are marked with a red counter:

• Blue counter — new messages only in the main project chat
• Green counter — new messages only in group, task, or meeting chats
• Double blue and green counter — messages in both

To set up system notifications, open the sidebar in the project's main chat, click Three dots (...) > Edit, find the Project notifications section, toggle the events you want, and click Save. You can also create multiple CoPilot chats in one project: click Plus (+) above the project's chat list, next to the search bar, and select CoPilot chat.

How to Manage Members, Access, and Existing Chats

You can add members when creating a project or later in an existing one. When creating a project, go to the Projects section, click Create, find the Project members section, click Add, and select users, departments, or workgroups. In an existing project, open the main chat, click the button in the upper right corner, open the Employees tab, select colleagues, and click Add.

Access depends on how you add people. If you add someone to a project's group chat and they are not yet project members, Bitrix24 warns you that they will get access to the entire project. If you add someone only to a task chat within the project, they will get access to that task only, not the entire project.

You can add an existing group chat to a project if you are the project owner or an employee with permission to invite members, and you own the chat. In the project, click Plus (+) > Move chat to project. From the group chat, open the sidebar and click Three dots (...) > Add chat to project.

To share a project link, open the project's main chat, open the sidebar, click Three dots (...), and select Copy link. In a public project, users can open the project and join it on their own. In a private project, users will not see the project until you add them manually.
